What is a neck pain?

Neck pain is a common complaint. Neck pain treatment is needed when muscles can be strained from a lousy posture — whether it’s leaning over your computer or hunching over your workbench. Osteoarthritis is also a frequent cause of neck pain.

What happens once I have neck pain treatment

Your doctor might prescribe stronger pain medication than that which you can be acquired over-the-counter.

If that fails, there are several neck pain treatments available:

• Physical therapy. A physical therapist may teach you correct posture, alignment and neck-strengthening exercises, and also may use smoke, heat, electrical stimulation and other steps to help ease your pain and prevent a recurrence.
• Transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS). Electrodes placed on your skin close to the sensitive areas deliver small impulses that may relieve pain.
• Traction. Traction uses weights, pulleys or an air bladder to stretch your neck gently. This neck pain treatment, under the supervision of a medical practitioner and physical therapist, can provide relief of a few neck pain, particularly pain associated with nerve root irritation. A soft collar that supports your neck might help relieve pain by taking stress off the structures in your neck. But if used for at least three hours at a time or at least one or two weeks, a collar may do more damage than good.

What to Consider?

It has been proven that home exercise can be an excellent cure for any neck pain that you may have.

Begin daily mild stretching, such as neck shoulder and rolls, after the worst of the pain has subsided. Gently lean, rotate and bend your neck. Warm your back and neck with a heating pad or in the shower before doing these recommended exercises. Your physical therapist or doctor can instruct you in doing these activities.
